A book has to be very bad indeed for me to spot woffley-bollox, and I regretted buying the encyclopedia within minutes of casting aside Amazon's packaging.

Exactly my thought... Though that was my second thought... My first thought was "The bookseller never mentioned fucking Kiley!"

My third to two-hundredth thoughts were "That's copied directly from Mollo."

Thankfully my copy was obtained via a book club and I was able to send it straight back, with a note cancelling my membership.

I actually challenged him on this and he flatly denied it. I then sent him a list of plates where even the frigging pose was exactly the same. Still awaiting a response several years later.

Yes, I remember the conversation. As soon as I opened the book I realised it was clearly a copy.

Mollo/McGregor for British uniforms. Is on order
Lefferts for Continental uniforms. I have found the colour plates online!
Rene Chartrand's Osprey for French uniforms. I already own a copy of (found in a stack of ospreys I bought cheap as a job lot when a bookshop closed).

When doing the Germans, bear in mind that Mollo/McGregor got it mostly right, except for the legwear. Hesse Cassel troops (and also, I think, Anspach Bayreuth and Waldeck) kept their long gaiters virtually all through the war, but the Brunswickers and Hesse Hanau forces in the North adopted British-style overalls for the Saratoga campaign.
