That's what I heard.
I gather they didn't like where they were living and, having cast around for somewhere better, they moved en masse to the island. If Canvey was an an improvement, It's hard to imagine what kind of hell hole they lived in before. I guess it must have been somewhere in Kent.

I think it was more to do with house prices and living space, most familes have around 60 children so Stamford Hill in London and Cheetham in Manchester are far from ideal. Some directly from Israels borderlands where they felt being slingshotted by Canveys natives was reassuringly homely.

Prestwich is the Jewish area of Manchester, my wife works for a firm on Hacidic Jews. One day I’ll regale you with the tales. Cheetham Hill is a renowned Pakistani area
