So over-rated. I prefer magazines and get them from those kinds of websites that ask you to prove your age first. And require a credit card for payment. Though I have seen many of their brick and mortar stores in Lincolshire - their signs are always in neon lighting and the windows are painted black. My kind of magazine also usually don’t have a lot of words, they’re mostly pictures. Words are also over-rated. Look at the Egyptians. Walk like one too.

I most certainly do! I had a real book splurge on the ECW a while back because it was going to be my next project.
However I am excellent unlike all you heathens and live a life of purity and dedication to one project at a time.
Sort of.

I would have to be Black Tom as Fairfax was from Denton, which is a couple of miles from Ilkley.

Timmo is probably the best human source of info on here. The wiki/BCW project probably represents the current state of knowledge on (a) regiments (who, where and when), and (b) coat/flag colours.

I would not rush into Empress just yet. Some of the figures look a bit odd, but also Eureka are about to bring out a 15/18mm range. In fact, I think they may even have released some figures already - worth taking a look at, according to Timmo.

However, if you do decide to go down the 28mm route, there are a couple of extra ranges to consider: one is Bicorne, which is a two-part range - the first part was sculpted by the same guy who did the Renegade stuff and is now doing TAG (Nick Collier). The original Bicorne range is compatible, size-wise with Renegade (now hard to find, as the company stops and starts trading at odd moments) and Redoubt; the more recent Bicorne stuff is smaller/slimmer and is compatible with other ranges, such as Perry and TAG.

Here's a useful "figure comparison" thread on Lead Adventure Forum, which also contains several off-shoot links that are also very useful:-

I don’t think I can improve on what Brendan said. I have the Bicorne figures and they are very nice, big and chunky, just the way I like my men. I did look at the Empress range but I really didn’t like the style, too slender and elegant for a bunch of English thugs.

Don’t let your ‘friend’ get too hung up on uniforms, I very much doubt the supply arrangements were that competent. Most ‘coloured’ regiments would have a fair smattering of Buff/earthy browns/very off-whites in their clothing range.

Nic has shown the greens on FB. They do look good.

However, do get C F Wesencrafts wargames book on the pike and shot era, the second half is maps and oobs for just about every battle you can name in a nice simple wargamery manner.
