So to summarise, some figures deployed with some frontage and taking up some table space, make a unit.
All the numbers are therefore irrelevant, and just down to player/owner preference.
Iain's head will now explode when he realises he's on the rule-writing path that Black Powder has already travelled.

Well Black Powder is effectively advanced Rank and File with added period flavour.
I’ll look up mine when I’m home tomorrow Iain but it’s the basing system outlined in Honours of War

hehehe.....
To be fair it's pretty consistent at 15-20mm frontage for close order foot in two ranks and effectively the same for light types but only in one rank.
Cavalry seem to be mostly 20mm frontage for regulars.
I'm presuming EB is looking to work out ranges based on an average ground scale.
I'd look at the smallest unit sizes as people rarely mind spliting and combining the units in their collections but don't like painting extras (plus i'm aware my cavalry units are quite big
)

I'm very grateful for the time and effort that's being put into supplying unit stats, and for suggestions about rules.
Please continue, because it's all very helpful.
One word of advice though. Trying to second guess what ideas or schemes I have blundering round my old and addled brain is futile.
You are all wonderful.

I mistakenly thought that there might be a genuine reason for asking, other than general nosiness.

EB’s been on the sauce early today. Next there’ll be hugs all round at Ayton
