The flags on my 20mm WSS French are 30mm square.

Sounds about normal for wargamers to me

I could trim it down if I want to be anal about historical service. Quite a few regiments kept the 1st battalion on home garrison duties while sending the 2nd/3rd battalions to Canada, India or Minorca and one flag is for a regiment that seems to have disappeared after the WAS and was merged with Flandres

Or do it full and do the full battleline for fontenoy or malplaquet.

A quick glance made me read that as "French gave him relief." Possibly some obscure clause it the Treaty of Hubertusberg perhaps.

Just measured my 28mm French SUW flags from GMB Designs and they are 40mm square too. They look fine on my figures, I think, so you need to start buying 28mm French.

Ebay and keeping your eye out for special offers will keep costs down. Also some manufacturers will sometimes give discounts if you're picking up a large order at a show (Crann Tara spring to mind and they do SYW French :) :) )
