Now we have the full story everything is easy to understand. Purps put the flag on the right way up but the barn was haunted by the spirit of a milkmaid who was burned as a witch and she inverted it.

I read it as Purps likes a nice hard staff in the dark, and especially in a 17th Century barn if he’s upside down.

And this is Lincolnshire so she was tried as a witch only in around 2009

Ha! We still cook and eat witches round here. Well, the good looking ones, anyways. Had a bit of witch for me tea last night, her name was Hazel. Quite fresh she was, too.
