Picture No 7 is an interesting one. It shows the 'last throw of the dice for the British' (literally). In fact it shows the last capable British battalion on the field, the 71st Highlanders who had advanced steadily up the centre of the battlefield, routing several Militia units, then, finally turning about to face off with a good State Militia unit and finding itself being fired on from all directions. The American artillery is firing on the Highlanders through the dense wood (the dark green patch, the rest of the field was open wood)at the same time the 'Continentals' (two Regular American Regiments) had advanced down from their vaunted position to volley into the rear of the 71st. All this is being observed by Cornwallis from across the fields.
