I agree about the French artillery crewman marching, geat fig.
Highlander bayonetting the ground, less so.

Is say the WW2 German officer firing a pistol, and that Waterloo Highlander digging a hole with his bayonet. I've got the Airfix book, softback, somewhere. I'll have to dig it out now & have a peruse.

Airfix poses, always a fun game. In order of my definition of coolness

1) The WWII 1/32 German Officer firing the P38 pistol

2) All of the second edition 1/72 Foreign Legion figures, loved every one of them.

3) The 2nd edition 1/72 Afrika Korps set had a German advancing with rifle at high porte, in helmet and shorts he was cool, and the guy running with the MG34.

4) The High Chaparral specials they added to the Cowboys set.

5) All of the 1/32 Australians except the officer.

Uncool

1) The two gay WWI Americans running along with a picnic basket.

2) The WWI Brits with the roll of barbed wire.

3) All of the Commandos sets in 1/72 and 1/32

4) The Union and Confederate downward bayonetting guys, unless you had large enough numbers of them to make units, then they kinda worked.

5) The Brit 1/32 paratroop officer, WTF was he pointing at, because he sure wasn't looking at it.

But the real gripe with Airfix soldiers of all sizes was, why were they so stingy with kit, they were always under equipped, I mean their personal equipment, they always went into battle very under equipped.

It was a great set but the one holding his rifle in the air as if wading confused me - was he going for a paddle in the oasis ?

Best? Lots of candidates in the later issues but I'll go for the Second Series Afrika Korps MG gunner lying prone. He looked the business.
Most memorable, possibly the WWI French pigeon handler, with basket and pigeon, or at least a vaguely pigeon shaped blob in his hand.
Worst, probably the British para doing exercises, one hand down at his boots, the other holding a packet up in the air. I think he was actually meant to go with the parachute container & was unpacking it.

The French Artilleryman has clearly just been kicked in the balls, you can tell from his posture. He does take the prize.
I used Robin hood sets for pointy stick light infantry, leaving me with a squadron of Maid Marions and a small contingent of Friar Tucks.

There is a figure in the Wagon Train set that seems to be doing his imitation of a seal. It does not get my approval.

The Ancient Briton box had a number of good "barbarian" poses (not necessarily Ancient British) but the chieftain with the Battersea shield & probably inaccurate winged helmet was a cracker IMO.
