Do we have a maximum table size? I reckon if we want to avoid wall-to-wall deployment we'll need a 16'-18' table. If it's going to have to be smaller, we may have to leave some toys at home. Has anyone got desert/arid mats/cloths to cover a table that size? I thought we might have a fictitious Rome/Gaul/Carthage alliance against a Greek/Trojan force, so something of a mediterranean/middle eastern feel, with not much terrain (a few hills, a bit of scrub/small trees, some rough ground etc to break up the table and give light troops somewhere to skulk)
I though maybe Jeremy, Jamie and Dave would be the attackers, with Dave taking some troops from the other 2 guys' collections, with Simon and I defending with a smaller force in the morning, waiting for Iain to arrive in the afternoon to save the day (I know, we're f**ked before we start on that premise!)
If arid doesn't work because we have no cloths, I've got a 12'x6' Grassland Tiny mat which we could supplement if we have a bigger table
PS I've booked a room at the lodge now - been waiting to see if my health is up to a boozy weekend following my op but the 'test event' in Newark passed without incident - so I'm definitely good to go.

That's fantastic to hear Gary
looking forward to seeing everyone again
I recon I can definitely get a nice force together for Dave, of a couple of Infantry divisions and some Cavalry

Or we could all just gang up on Jamie’s Romans

Current plan is to use Jeremy and Simon's forces as a benchmark and then balance the sides with mine and Jamie's. I'll probably make the Romans/Carthaginians a bit larger because you'll get to attack. Mind you, the Greeks will need more forces because we'll have to compensate for EB losing all our cavalry!
Holding fire on army sizes until I know how big the tables can be

Ha! Just slipped in a gratuitous cheap insult to check whether you were paying attention!
Are you still up for taking part Iain?

Paul has kindly offered to bring his sand-coloured mats that we used for the colonial Ayton game a few years back, so we're good to go for an 18ft table. Whilst I generally don't like 'points' systems for games, they can help to get a roughly balanced game. Jamie and Jeremy's combined forces are around 15% larger than mine and Simon's combined, so we're good to go on that too.
If anyone has any desert/ arid terrain items to dress the table that would be good. In particular I want a smallish village and some rough ground/scrub. I've got hills that we can put under the mats and some rocky outcrops
I have a scenario in mind and I'll post some preamble soon, but in the meantime could J&J please sort their forces into 3 'armies' (to allow for Dave), each of 2 'infantry' divisions and a mixed cavalry/light troop/auxiliary 'vanguard' division.
Simon and I will carve out a force for EB to join for the afternoon.
I'll produce a scenario narrative and some force composition notes over the next couple of days. Oh, and dream up some silly names for the imagination commanders . . . .

Gary it sounds like you are not aware, but I had a pm from Dave. He will not be coming. His pass was revoked. He sends his apologies to all.
