There was a kids TV show back in the late 60's and early 70's set in the Monmouth Rebellion, and Colonel Kirke and the Lambs featured heavily in it. Damned if I can remember the show's name though. I can remember thinking it was an unusual historical era for a kids programme.BaronVonWreckedoften wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 7:17 pmGood on ya! They were the very first unit of Dixon "Grand Alliance" figures I painted back in the late 1980s. Sold them to Levied Troop at a Bovington weekend some years ago and I believe he used them in the historical Monmouth Rebellion skirmish game he put on at several shows (forget the name, but it was the skirmish with grenadiers and a roadblock).

Solved that. It was called "Pretenders", first aired in 1972. I thought it was longer ago than that.

Yes, I remember it! There was a German gunner who was hanged from a tree by Kirke, accompanied by the words: "You kill the King's men, you receive the King's law. You kill my men, you receive MY law!" followed by a shot of the German's boots twitching.....

It was the early 70's Ken, and as I recall there was no phone line number for counselling at the end of the show either. Kids were hardier then.

Probably went straight out into the garden afterwards and re-enacted the scene using a younger sibling.

So, what are the plans for Ayton 2023 then?
I've just realised that its only five months off........not long at all when you're very old (like what I am).
Hotel booked.

It will be 19th century Imagi-Colonial as I have already painted my force commander, Major Ptolemy Orpington, the hero of Kushtibad.
