My own views are:
1: Generally we could allow 1 distinction for every 2 or 3 units in a force. There is little point having Guards units unless they are better at something.

2: An additional distinction for every deficiency taken so if the Mudshire Militia have Poor Drill another unit in the brigade could have an additional distinction. It might be possible to class the Mudshires as Poor Drill, Brittle, Bad Shots and Nervous to gain 4 distinctions on other units but it wouldn't be gentlemanly.

3: Units that gained a battle honour last year would retain it, over and above the limit. Consistent good performance should be rewarded. I have to confess that my best performing unit was the light infantry that Tim H loaned to me. They definitely deserve recognition as Iain will grudgingly testify.
Thank goodness, a very sensible suggestion. And I'm very happy to testify - the buggers just would not fall over. Fine fellows, brilliantly commanded.

On the second day, the Dystopian army gained a spectacular victory - I'm sure one or two units could be singled out for mention in dispatches.

Most of my force will be new units, indeed some are from a new nation, the empire of La Cors. Their Imperial Guard will need at least one distinction to justify the bearskin headdress.

I've added just one unit......a squadron of Caribinieri lancers. They will provide an escort to the Dystopian CinC - the gentleman general himself having been beautifully painted and donated by the spectacularly talented and very generous Mr Timothy Hall.

The distinctions as battle honours is a very good idea Buff. In fact when compiling the Army Lists for last year some units were rewarded or penalised for their performances the year before. So yes, totally in agreement with that. I would reward that French light unit, but then again they are French.................................

As for fresh troops, The Army of Erbprinz now has a spanking new and shiny artillery battery of two lovely Britain's field guns freshly re painted, and appropriate crews. (Their lack of artillery previously was a factor in their disastrous action at the bridge) The French have been reinforced by another Line Infantry unit and some Fusilier Marins, as well as another gun. There will also be some more French cavalry, a couple more units of British skirmishers and some cavalry and a new Elite unit for the Erbprinz, as well as some militia if the War budget will stretch that far, prices having risen quite a bit.

But above all, loving the optimism that we may get a chance to get these troops on a battlefield some time in the future.

Talk of this shiny stuff makes me feel impure. I must go into my cloister and scourge myself with a 6mm cat o nine tails.

so, I had a very enjoyable cuppa a chat with Mr P yesterday. Lets make an optimistic assumption that this might (perhaps....maybe....possibly.....who knows) happen - who would be interested in the 28/30mm late 19th C Shiny game on the other day? I think we have me, CB and Peeler all with shinyfyingly appropriate armies. Anyone else in for this one ?

Nothing shinyfyingly, and still coronavirus dependent, I might, I repeat might casually pop into Ayton, it was the first year I might have made the May one as well, but of course that did not happen either!

I'm booked into the Lodge anyway and I doubt I'll cancel even if Ayton2 doesn't happen. I'll have a northern mini breakette.

Fred - I hope to see you there. That would be nice.

As for games - in view of all the disruption, I suggest we keep an open mind re both days. 28/30mm shiny sounds brill.

I thought you said you weren't doing this ?

Open mind is fine but its also good to think about what the options might be especially for those of us who might need to paint some stuff
