Not to mention being remarkably rare in terms of it actually being used on the battlefield. One slip, by either guy, and the No.2's back is full of lead, which - if nothing else - would at least provide a welcome distraction from the ringing in his ear.

I've often wondered about that. It hardly seems a pose suited to taking deflection shots on a crossing target.

When were you in York, you should have given me a shout.

It was however, a standard training drill so would have seen some use.

Last week. We had the Missuses parents and aunt in tow so I don’t think it would have gone down well! Women can be funny like that

I had often wondered about that, but thought it might have been up (or should that be "down"?) there with Sven Hassel's standing to attention whilst someone balanced a stick grenade on the top of your helmet in terms of veracity. I imagine it didn't survive much longer than the passing out parade for most people. I can't imagine many folk being keen on having a 1,000-round-a-minute weapon's muzzle blast next to their ear and muzzle flash next to their eye. Actually, I can think of one or two I've met over the years, but I wouldn't want to be near any of them with loaded weapons, even if the enemy wasn't present.

D'you mean them with these loaded weapons, or you? I have a list a mile long of people who are not welcome to carry loaded weapons near me; it's a bit shorter for me carrying the weapons.

Gatta agree about the pose, imagine if he slews right.
