Flick the switch? I think you're overestimating the level of technology present in RMD's signal box. And the amount of delay that constitutes "late".

Electric lights now? Lighting the lamps in the old crossings was a real pain.

Yeah, the place went electric in 1988 - this system replaced 7 other signal boxes and all the levers and semaphore signals went to a preserved railway. I did train on traditional signalling though and once had to climb up the signals to refill the oil-lamps.

Electric in 1988! Me oh my, that must have been a shock!
