I recall a boys' comic from the late 60s (either the Victor, Hotspur or Hornet as I collected all three assiduously) that had a story about "The White Tigers of Mysore" and featured tigers being ridden by Indians as a form of cavalry-plus (the plus being the sort of teeth and claws most horses don't possess - outside of Norm's research lab, at least). Maybe a few tigers and a handler as a vignette?
There's also the famous near-lifesize clockwork "toy" of a tiger mauling a prone Company soldier, that belonged to Tipoo Sultan.

The latest unit to march off the painting desk for Pendawar is the 1st Native Infantry Regiment, otherwise the Pendawar Grenadiers. More on the blog thingie for the interested.
