You must greet people by saying "Nkulu! Your belly is fat and your loins are heavy."

Nkulu means big in Zulu or is sometimes used as an insult in Xhosa as it means the dirty white scum you find on waves when it’s windy. The word you’re looking for I think is Tata, an honorific for elder (direct translation is Father). Or babba which means brother. All Zulus regard each other as brothers. The rest is quite right though. Also talk about how fat the wives are and how ponderous are their breasts. And how nubile the daughters are

Jamanicus would have started all insults with Inja... dog. Except now he’s Indian. He needs to learn to wobble his head instead

Edit: mlungu is is the word for dirty scum. My Xhosa is a bit rusty. African languages can very interpretive. Nkosi can mean thank you or Chief, depending on the language

I get the impression that this is going to be more "It ain't half hot, mum!" than "Zulu!". Just be careful you don't end up as "Mr La-De-Da Gunner Grahamanicus". Or the Northern guy who always had his mouth full of cake/pie when he spoke (actually, I think Peeler may have already baggsied that role).

Jamanicus, go to a number of local curry houses and copy the manner of their speech. An appropriate greeting might be to make a Namaste and then, smiling, say "How may I be of service to the dirt encrusted sahib and his flea infested memsahib" followed by a little bow.

Thanks to Gary , I think I can keep the Dahlia/Chindrastan thing going. We'll need to do a bit of squinting so that Zulus and Madhists appear Indian-ish, but in essence, I think I can make it work using some systems I've had for years for semi-automating the native contingent and recycling casualties.

.
Okey dokey. As Gary is supplying the native contingent, I'll let my mob get back to their dole queues and Assylum applications. Saves a bit of room in the car as well.

battleeditor wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2018 1:01 am Hmmmm. Calm down Jamanicus. They might look like Zulus, but they aren't Zulus. This is an imagi-nations game and their accents will be distinctly Indian sub-continent. No horns of the anything. No Michael bloody Caine. You’ll see.
Does that mean we can't use silly names for the Zulu commanders. . . . . .I have a few available, though they probably shouldn't be published here!

Just have to invent some Indian names. That can't be too hard.

The two Fakirs - Dhozi and Yuhzlis - would be a good start.
