She said that her dark red and red brick coloured woollen clothes had not faded at all, after many years use. She also said that, apart from natural colours, peasants would commonly wear those darker shades because they were cheap and long lasting.
It may be a bit of selective memory on her part and if an actual comparison was made, rather than relying on memory, it might be a different story. Chemical mordants were developed exactly because naturally fixed pigments fade significantly:)
However, lime green and turquoise, perfectly achievable using natural dyes so fill yer boots
I have many photos of tests on cloth and wool using natural dyes and fixatives and it was possible to produce a veritable rainbow of colours (don't believe the rubbish about there being no purple unless you mugged a shellfish).
A while back I made this, rather scrappy, guide for my own use. I used colour swatches from dyed wool and made the colours wargames friendly.(There is no significance to size of swatches, it just very badly presented
)

She was wearing the clothes, Paul, which she dyed herself. Maybe she was just good at it, perhaps?
That's a splendid colour chart.

I seem to have a relevant FoG supplement 'Storm of Arrows' gathering dust* on the shelves. That'll be a start. I *believe* that LR/2 widens its applications to the Dark Ages.....could be useful?
My TD Late Antiquity forces that I'm working on for WaC have a subdued palette. I believe I will brighten up a little for my Franks for LR.
Iain as a purveyor of figures has again caught my attention. I believe he alone has contributed to the balance of payments that has helped the UK to stay afloat post-Brexit.

But was she standing next to herself wearing the same clothes five years ago to allow a judgement on fading etc...?
We've all seen how if things change in small increments we have no real perception how big a change has happened over time? (Have you checked out the Ayton group photos!!)

It is no secret that that LR2 covers the Dark Ages There are plenty of unit upgrades and special rules to add period flavour for games in that era.

Covered that. I had her peel back the hem so we could compare the colours. Virtually no fading. If only you'd been there.
I was looking back over Ayton piccies.........frightening.

Peeling back the clothes of strange ladies in Public, even ones with a time machine in their corset, is surely a bit too risque for a retired gent?

I'm assuming that's some sort of euphemism?

Made an old man very happy.
Anyway, who said she was strange? I prefer 'obliging'.
