I have mats by cigarbox which work ok with draped hills under the mat but aren't perfect. My preference are Hotz mats from http://www.hotzmats.com/ they are a felt mat and drape over hills almost perfectly colour is nicely pastel too BUT you have to be prepared for a very unreliable service. I waited 3 months for one of my orders.

Three pages in and nobody is touching cloth.

With this lot you can't be sure though.

Most of us wouldn't remember even if we had.

I've been looking for a wargame cloth for a while now and can't believe how difficult it is to find a simple, light green blanket 8' x 6' for less than £100... let alone the £50 max that I'd rather pay...

Have you tried Dunelm? Remarkably cheap. Bugger is that their website doesn’t give sizes apart from ‘small’ and ‘Large’ but they do some great faux fur stuff. The size you want may be difficult, a 6’ width might need a specialist supplier and therefore expensive but cotton twill decorators sheets would work, particularly if you stitch faux fur or towelling on top of it to give relief (ooooer missus).

you could try using old army blankets. Only a lunatic would try that though. .......

Felt underlay under the cloth "softens" the book/box contours and allows realistic positioning of troops on slopes.

To be fair, things only went wrong when he decided to wear it as a shawl while painting it.

I have a large stock of those, but they only come in two varieties - cream with blue 'tramlines' or dark grey. At present, I use a square cut from the olive-drab third of a military parachute. It's a bit rubbish, to be honest...
