Re: SELWG Show
Much like his trousers.
@SELWG today:- Met up briefly with Mr Burt (nice to see you, Iain - looking very well, especially with that extra £30 in your pocket!); and played the Mexicans (or rather one of the units) in that nice Mr Troop's game. The presence of two Barons on the Hispanic side proved too much for the enemy and a resounding victory was recorded for the forces of "we donn need yurr steenkin' wall".
Difficult to say if the scenario needs tweaking, as there were clear positives for both sides to use - the Texans with the benefits of long-range rifle fire and skirmish order reducing casualties, and the Mexicans with numbers and artillery, but there was a clear point when the game turned (when the first Mexican unit unleashed a stunning volley, with first fire and controlled fire bonuses) and from there on the Texans were struggling.
A well-run game - make a point of playing it if you see it at a show.
Overall, I'd have to say that SELWG was down on numbers - possibly the least well attended SELWG I've seen at Crystal P. What did other attendees think?

Kein Plan überlebt den ersten Kontakt mit den Würfeln. (No plan survives the first contact with the dice.)

I forgot to say.......Brendan, John and Mick, Andy says hello.
Good to see each of you, and extra specially good to shift some lead (thank you Brendan).
I thought there were fewer punters this year but the overall quality of the games was very good (nice one LT - quality troops and terrain, and humour....Mr Bowe indeed).

I also thought there was a bit more room to move around in than last year.
Yep, the chat with others was good. I even met up with a bloke who lives two roads down from where I used to live in Southend. The world is definitely shrinking. Another face-box ticked with Brendan.
Still managed to come away with the grand total of 10 bags of bases, 2 pots of paint and an Osprey on Pavia. Not a great deal present for the historical 6mm enthusiast.

Re: SELWG Show
Not sure I saw very much of the show (and only just got back) but certainly enjoyed it, plenty of chat with passers-by and assorted Loose Asses. Only downside was overly-entitled nobility grinding the faces of the poor.
Well, poor Texans certainly. Still not sure I've got the scenario/army lists properly balanced, the Texan's lost again and despite some better tactical play and at least one cunning ruse never really looked confident of winning. I'll do some more play-testing for it's final outing at Tunbridge but there's a revised scenario at least in the offing.
I though the quality of games was well up to scratch from what I did see. Maidstone's War of the Robots game looked as good as ever and Shepway had a great Arthurian game - splendid scenery.

Re: SELWG Show
I seem to recall that "the other Baron's" movement dice were pretty appalling, which actually turned out quite well for us, as it allowed him to pour flanking fire into the units attacking the "stay-at-home" Mexican unit on our right flank (in fact, the other unit [David's] also had poor movement dice, which left it ideally placed to shoot the Texans emerging from the undergrowth - now there's an irony - in the back!). Not sure you can really legislate for that kind of fortuitous "bad" dice.
Also, the Texans did miss rather a lot, not so much with their initial hit rolls, but certainly with the subsequent damage rolls. Maybe an extra shock point (which the Texan player can add where he chooses) if he registers 2/3 or better shock/death rolls from his volley (eg 7 dice, 5 hits, 3 shock and 1 death = 1 extra shock) to represent the weight of lead "hitting home"?

Re: SELWG Show
Interesting points your Baronship and it’s true the dice rolls were low enough to enter for the Limbo Dancing All-Comers Invitation.
I did wonder about the +1 shock for moving with two dice. It does seem to penalise movement excessively given that the uncertainty of random dice movement adequately reflects moving over variable ground.

Especially for you, Col Bowie encourages his troops
A few people did ask what Ronald McDonald was doing in the battle. I've had those people hunted down and deported.
