There’s no ‘fixed’ attachment point for the split-trail legs. They must be sat on the axle ‘freehand’.
And they’re so damn long that any minor variance in angle is glaringly obvious.

Yes, but the important thing is.....that it's FRENCH!!! This means that ANY idiosyncratic and irregular angle is both feasible AND historically accurate. If anyone questions it, simply light up a Gauloise Bleu, shrug your shoulders, and go "Pffftt!" in a Gallic manner.
