On a sensible note.............
I've tried to phone the Lodge to adjust my booking. There's a rather clipped recorded message to say there's no one there to take the call 'Goodbye - click' I suppose it might just mean that the reception isn't manned.
I've e-mailed to ask for my reservation and payment to be moved to the first May Bank Holiday weekend of 2021, with an option to move it to a weekend later this year. Deposits, under normal circumstances, are non returnable but they'll move the date of the booking if you notify the change 72 hours before hand.

The Lodge didn't ask me for a deposit, when I booked. They said they knew the group I was coming with, and so it wouldn't be necessary. Three alternatives occur to me:
1) That Is their normal MO and Essex Boy has been scammed.
2) You lot got to them and told them to tell me that, and I would have turned up and found no room booked for me. Or
3) The village idiot happened to be passing the desk and answered the phone and they will never have heard of me.
There may be other options, but it's late and I can't be bothered now.

Option 3 is highly plausible. Still worth trying for a refund, you might get EB's

Don’t think I’ve ever paid a deposit at the Lodge?

Could be a scramble for EB's deposit then.

The Lodge doesn't appear to be answering the phone at all now and there is no answer phone either

I'm picturing them all lying about coughing and sweating, too weak to answer the phone.
Rather like Ken after a night on the Sambuca.
