Are there any other renaissance sets that are similarly flexible and readily available (is P&S still a free download ?)

That's where you're wrong, furry person.

I have a clear image in my mind's eye of what I want to do. I'm saying nuffing now for fear of having me guns spiked by someone's warped sense of 'fun' but, suffice it to say, Mr Goat's question about rules, and the direction the answers are taking him, is making me happy ;) . But mum's the word.

I don't think P&S is available as a free download any more, but I did get one when it was, so could probably print one. The QRS is available and, unlike most of the others warlord produce, it's fairly comprehensive
Why us? Cos we're 'ere lad, nobody else.

I have the free download as well.

I'm not sure of the legal position but assume that a pdf distributed free of charge is henceforth in free circulation and can be shared? Is that wrong?

I think it's wrong. What you paid doesn't change their ownership of the ip.

I also have the free copy though so that's probably enough of us to play a game.

My mum would have had real problems with the ECW. Politically she would have been a parliamentarian, but she was a die hard royalist.

I have a hard copy so am happy to use it. Rules are immaterial really for EB as we all know he makes them up as he goes along.
