Yes, it was the M548, but mechanically it was the same as M113. Tracked Rapier was originally built for Iran, along with Challenger 1. Both those weapons were then adopted by the British Army when the Iranian Revolution happened. Without the Iranian Revolution, all Rapier SAMs would have been towed and Chieftain would still have been the British Army's MBT until Challenger 2 came along.

As the Wg Cdr says, it was based on the M548 ammo carrier, but was mechanically identical to the M113. The RA used the M548 as an ammo-carrier in SP artillery regiments. I don't know about the export reason, but it would make perfect sense, as it was built for Iran, which was a big user of the M113.

That's very kind, but I can't claim credit for the game, as it was almost all all Pete Barfield's effort. I only provided my 'Gels' and an aeroplane. This year's game is a spectacular urban scenario by Dave Rose.

It's just occurred to me that the British Army also used the M752 Lance tactical missile carrier, which was another M113/M548 derivative.
