True in ceasars day, but they were becoming rare from then on.
Same problem with romans though. Legion 1 to many. Auxillery foot, 1 to many, slingers, 1 to many, auxillery cavalry 1 to many.
You and Jezza seem to know your Roman stuff and it's an army I know little about (except how to beat it in DBM
)
How was the army equipped in AD69 ie the Year of four emperors mentioned by LT?
The Aventine EIR Legionaries are a bit later in date i think, so where to go?

EIR in lorica, rectangular scutum, pila and gladius, pretty much the classic look for them. Hold through to the Severine period about AD200. Only major change is for the Dacian campaigns where some extra arm armour was used.
It is a good period, you can use them for AD61 and Boadicca, year of the 4 emperors, the batavian revolt, germans and Gauls. And Corbulo in the East.

And Corbulo in the East.
Is that Jeremy Corbulo?

Cheers, If I take the plunge i'll want them to fight Dacians too, but I can cope with a minor armour difference for that.

I don’t think we should get too hung up on accuracy- paint what you like and if it’s too early for 69AD we’ll just assume it’s a more conservative Tribune. If it’s too late then it’s a Tribune with a good sense of fashion.

The Dacian change was never universal, but some legioaries were issued with a gladiator style arm guard in Trajans xampaigns, not used in Domitians though.
