When painting my classic Napoleonics I wear loons and an Afghan coat and listen to the vinyl album Tago Mago by German band Can.

You got to get the mood right to get in the zone to paint these Hinton Hunts.

Now you are talking my language, I used to love my loons apart from the lack of pockets; trouble was they were a dead wieght when it rained. Don't remember Can but early Floyd or Tangerine Dream would also fit the bill.

(Deliberately didn't explain about loons to keep EB duessing a little longer).

Okay, I'll put you out of your misery.

Loons were widely flared hipster trousers c. 1972ish in either plain or more commonly brushed denim worn by a fringe group known as Hairies because of...wait for it... the length and volume of their hair. Usually worn with what were commonly called desert boots made of soft, brushed leather and tie-dyed T shirts. I wore mine with a normal -for the times- Tshirt and a denim waistcoat because, due to the lack of pockets, I had nowhere to put my ciggies. (Nearly wrote fags but remembered just in time). As they were normally longer than the footwear and by their very shape virtually impossible to turn up, in the rain they invariably absorbed water like a bl**dy sponge. Think Shaggy from Scooby-Doo and you won't be far out. (See what I did there?)

Just found a picture while reading about the death of Heather North who voiced Daphne from the series.

I couldn't afford real loons but buying a cheap pair of jeans a size too small and sewing triangles of purple crushed velvet into the seams from the hem to the knee gave a very good approximation. I wore mine with a grandad shirt, beads and a donny osmond cap but I was about six at the time.
