The results of your games climb you up or down the Infamy! ladder until you can go no further. Then the campaign ends

So the question then becomes, how does it play, without the infamy track?

Perfectly. I’ve played probably two dozen stand alone games and all have been great. Most of the games going down to the wire. The games are very narrative. You must have a scenario - burn the crops, escort the senators wife off the table, burn the watchtower, etc. Straight up battles would be a bit boring I suspect.

At skirmish level, straight up battles are dull, as run away, is an honest tactic, so scenario driven is fine. Just wanted to be sure you did not need the intrigue and double dealing, to actually play the tabletop game.

Not at all. Plays perfectly well as a one-shot, or you can link several one-shots into your own narrative campaign

Thanks, Jeremy - puts it in proper perspective. Still not decided yet, though.....

I'm watching through Rich's youtube guides with growing interest. I'm torn now between trying Clash of Spears or Infamy. I liked the simple yet random terrain/scenario generation in Infamy. Clash suits my period interest better though, I know Rich is bringing out the Carthage stuff next but I bristle at rules with supplements these days, having enjoyed Bolt Action I want to get away from never ending add ons and extra books. Don't minf for WWII as its a constant interest but not for Ancients. Another factor is that that I would probaby struggle to find opponents for clash, whereas some if you lot have Infamy already, Jezza is an expert and dare I suggest a future Ayton game?

Once I pull my finger out my backside and get my Romans painted, I’d be happy to put a virtual game on for you Tim

If you have a good vice, you could probably combine painting with exploration of your anal cavity.
