I went, I saw and I ...... bought a couple of things. A new to me company called Iron Gate Scenery had some nice resin stuff and some of Col Bill’s assorted cart horses and wounded British for 1940.
And you’ll never guess who I met
Easily identifiable, he was looking wistfully at pies.

Photographic evidence or it didn't happen...

It’ll have been one of those cardboard cutout policemen they have in petrol station windows

Is my word not good enough? [insert ‘injured innocence’ tone overlaid with ‘mild embarrassment’ and ‘hint of menace’]
Gangs of Rome looked interesting, good scenery and figures, 3x3 table seemed a little small, I’d want the whole forum as a start (there needs to be a Lurkio figure). Would have tried the rules but the chap at the table seemed reluctant to engage. Still, they should be in the in-box in a couple of weeks time.
Bit more detail here:

The “10,000 possible stat cards” makes more sense, I wasn’t too enamoured by the idea of one card = 1 mini.

Excellent! pleased it looked good. The cards have random stats, skills and backgrounds, within certain boundaries, and each has a points value depending on it's actual stats.
I've been hugely impressed by how the scenery looks online and the lure of only needing to paint up 5-10 figures is too much for me.

Slightly surprised not to have had this in the in-box already. Think I need a little more detail but the idea appeals greatly.
Just don't let Neandethal know, I'm supposed to be painting Garibaldis (and sorting out Rommel and planning a 1914 board).

The best thing about Roman buildings too, is that they have the potential for use over thousands of years of historical games on many continents.

And this is how it starts. Next we will have enough buildings to make Rome and a few legions, then some auxilae and perhaps a few of the many armies to fight against. This sounds like Sharpe Practice I'll only need about thirty troops"

I don't get it. Was expecting Gangs o' Frome to be based around small hordes (pelotons) of cyclists all jostling about, bums in the air, trying to knock each other off during a race. Like Gasslands with MAMIL's
