A depressing day today. I decided not to race late last night on what would have been my best/longest race this year. Just not fit enough and family life has been a bit full on lately with Memsahib back at work and no nanny. Decided to stay home and get some paint daubed on some lead.

Bavarians this time, dont look too closely! For some reason I can no longer see what I'm doing.

Nicely bring the European army up to x4 infantry units now. Plus 1 gun and crew and a huge horse unit. Many more to do before Ayton.

Stupid question: enamel paint or do you use acrylic & gloss varnish?
(the figures are so evocative of better times).

Just acrylic and humbrol gloss. I know Aly Morrisson gloss paints his but the colour choice is much better with acrylics.

I believe that Aly also uses yacht varnish to get that real deep gloss look. The trouble is, that it will yellow with time.

I'm not usually a fan of shiny toy soldiers but I do like those Tim - well done

Each to their own, but not to my taste at all. Still, looks like a good job done and if it floats your boat that's all that matters in the last analysis...

I'm sure I've said this before but, I really like the yellowing. It adds character.

I did try some boat varnish as its cheap as chips, but found it never really dried. Always seemed sticky.
