I always like to remind people of the dictum that philosophically, democracy rests on two pillars: a government responsive to the wishes of the populace, and a well-informed populace.

The UK as a whole would appear to be deficient in both pillars. (Not uniquely a UK problem, Oz also suffers similar issues.) Basically, asking people whose main news staples seem to be weather, footballers and reality TV stars to understand complex geo-political issues, the JIT manufacturing supply chain, or non tariff barriers and phytosanitary checks, seems to be asking for trouble.

Having a responsive government has been a problem over the years too. But hey, that's democracy, sometimes you just have to put up with it.
But back to the issue in hand - is that what OGUK does? And I've just recalled, buying something from USA years ago, had to pay some sort of tax & charge at the PO when I picked it up. As Grizz says, I'm sure it'll all iron itself out soonest. Business has a way of doing so.

The issue is simple.

instead of the buyer either paying sellers country tax, or paying VAT on import, the UK gov has decided the seller has to collect UK tax on their behalf and send them it.

A system used (as far as I am aware) by no other country or trading block.

Yes it seems that the government has decided to make life difficult for everyone in the world including us.

I think the "angst" is mainly because people have been ending up paying VAT twice and some have even been paying duty (and thus extra VAT) when they shouldn't have been. Never underestimate dodgy dealers using the confusion to make some extra money

The German kids had amazing toy soldiers and toy tanks under Hitler. Just visit the Toy Soldier Museum in Siloth if its still there and you'll see what I mean.

Just saying.

You'd think they'd want UK taxes paid in the UK, as much as possible. Easier to collect & easier to kick their back doors in if they don't pay up.

When VAT first came in in the UK, they used to charge overseaas orders VAT then pocket it. After a few years I found better firms to deal with.

When I used to live in SA, I always paid the same price for figures as someone living in the UK. The only exception was Perry Miniatures, they took the VAT off. I don’t know how many times I argued with a variety of company’s over this, to no avail.
