Yeah. I’ve heard a number of similar theories, that they integrated into society rather than took it by force. Doesn’t make a great game though.

So I can do 5 standard hoplite units. Plus 3 slightly smaller frontage units which I assume will be ok too (160 - 200mm)
2 units cavalry
3 units skirmishers
Plus 46 peltasts however we want to categorise them

You need to melt your Arthurians and your Saxons.

I was watching the archaeologist bit, the doable one. And she reckons that the Saxons were more immigrants than invaders. Did their farming, paid their taxes, intermingled and got on just fine. No Arthur, no barbarians in need of an ASBO, just new neghbours farming cows and shagging the odd sheep.
Plenty of evidence to suggest a bit of both, with the situation changing over time.

Yes, I was going to say much the same thing, Paul. Leaving aside any potential agenda the BBC might have to sell us the idea that all immigration is, by definition, good, the Romano-British were sufficiently shit-scared of them to have built a series of forts along the eastern coast of England.

Excellent. The peltasts would typically be light infantry units, either standard size or small (around 12 figures). Greek cavalry are also typically small units of 6 to 8 so that they're a nuisance rather than a battle winner. You've got enough figures for probably 3 divisions - a sensible army for a game on its own right.

Not to mention the general refortification of Iron Age Hillforts.

I've got what might be considered a meglomoniacal EIR army...largely unpainted mind 😬 around 10 20man units of legionaries (standard to Praetorians) and then about 6 units of 24man Auxiliaries, maybe 6 Auxiliary Cav, Aux archers...2/3 units and then around 4 units of skirmishers. Plus a division of Allied tribes, being Dacians, including a unit of Cataphracts and 2 Elephants (just because it's Imaginations and every other bugger had Elephants, so why not!!! Haha)

Obvs, I can paint what is needed and am pretty confident I can get through them in the nearly 9 months until the day!! Haha 😀
