Gaming or painting?

It's a bit of everything for me. I've always loved the research, collecting, army-building, painting and gaming. The gaming has obviously been lacking of late; one solo game and two face-to-face games this year so far. but that'll pick up. The club re-opened a while ago, but my one club experience of gaming with masks and steamy glasses was a miserable experience, so I'll leave it until the club is mask-free (the club has curiously high humidity and extremely poor lighting, so I couldn't see a fecking thing).

I've wondered the same thing from time to time. More people talk about their purchases, next projects, and painting output, than they do about playing games (or even planning/intending to play games). However, so long as everyone gets out of the hobby what they're looking for, it's all good stuff and the responses to this thread demonstrate that.

For me, I prefer my enjoyment to come from the gaming side but am happy to put in the painting/modelling effort to get things in the table. Recently I caught myself thinking my mojo had gone, then realised I was only considering the painting side, when actually I've had a huge amount of fun playing games (3 face to face, 25+ solo - all 5 Parsecs from Home) in the last couple of months. In turn this has led me to get back to making scenery and painting figures - the wargamer's virtuous circle!

Interested to know more about 5 Parsecs Dave. I saw it advertized the other day and it caught my attention.

Hi Tim, yes it's an excellent solo/co-op campaign game with lots of narrative punctuated with short, vicious gunfights. I'll do a separate thread on this with some pics.

I’ve often thought about a blog, but just never gotten round to it. I think largely because I spend 9+ hours a day for work on a PC, then most of my RPG’s are online, combined with virtual games since lockdown, it’s a lot of screen time.

I may consider it when things return to normal

I confess I find the blog has several advantages for me. I can find past stuff easily. It's a location for pictures I can then link to for forums etc.

I also find it good motivation, as I can see my own progress. There's also the nice element of encouragement from others commenting on posts.

I don't do Facebook or Twitter these days, so it's a nice mechanism for slow interactions with other folk.

Gamer. Painting is just an awful chore I do to allow me to play games. Government mandated seperation of people from each other makes it a little difficult of late.
