I live in the sunniest city in Scotland. I do recall explaining this to SWMBO. The apparent low amounts of sunshine hours in winter are actually quite a high percentage of actual daylight hours when it's dark from 3.30pm to 10.30am...

Possibly one of the few places in the world where the level of sunshine goes up in winter, then - the Vitamin D capital of Scotland.
