And that's what started the ECW, an argument between a right Charlie and some commoners. Always fancied the ECW, never done it though.

Fred's right. 6mm is the way forward. The new Baccus WEC range is excellent.
And you'd still have most of that windfall left for things that matter like beer and pies !

Other than Rank and File, mentioned by EB, what other rules are of note?

I have not played with my ECW collection for a long time. I used to use Piquets Anchor of Faith.

Recently I picked up a copy of For King and Parliament, which is based on To the Strongest, and these look to have merit

I doubt R&F would suit ECW. I'd be tempted to try Pike and Shotte.

King and Parliament, Pike and Shotte by Warlord Games are options. My recommendation would be Baroque based on the Impetus system. Heard great things about them from my mates in SA, and I know Impetus are a good set. Another option which is also good is George Gush’s rules - WRG 2nd Ed

And the nice thing about Baroque is the diorama style bases, though I would do mine in 4’s so they can cross over to other rule sets

Wow, imagine an Ayton sized game in 6mm. A whole county sized campaign over a weekend, at 1:1 figure scale. Has anyone ever gamed with 20000 6mm figures in one game?

Mind you, at Ayton you could probably do that in 15mm !!!

As well as potentially poorer.

Re rules: Pete Berry's Forlorn Hope rules, although not without some issues (Timmo come on down!), would be my pick of the current crop.

Carnage & Glory, the computer moderated rules, have an ECW variant, which I have but haven't played. There's no reason to think that they won't work as well as their 18th and 19th century versions do.
