Brendan, you can go with scaled down Btn base, the usual Brigade base, or up to Division base, or whatever, so long as the oppo does the same of course. Although we'd normally do Brigade (2500 foot or 1250 mounted per Brigade base), we've played GdB scenario's with Btn bases & they've played very well.

An urgent* question: if you are using 25/28mm-sized bases, I assume these are 60mm wide, but what are the depths? Are they also 50% bigger, or is there a different system?

Also, what size table for 25/28mm sized bases? I am going to pack these with 15/18mm troops.

In 25/28, using 60mm frontage, your ‘basic’ base depths are 30mm for foot & horse, 60mm for arty.

If you’re using the optional deeper basing rules, 40mm for ranked foot and Levee en Masse, 45 for lights/jägers.
(All other types are unchanged)

Edited to add: 36”/900mm square table is recommended for a basic (12-element) game in 25/28.

Bigger games (24-element) in 15mm widen the playing area by half (from 24”x24” to 24”x36”).
Using that formula gives you 36”x54” for a 24-element game in 25/28: round it up and say 3’x5’ for convenience.

I would go with the deeper base size as you can be more creative with the basing.

How many figures are you thinking of packing on a base ?

I can only call it as I read it.

If you’ve plumped for ‘roided-up “heroic 28’s”, then yeah, you may need to up those base depths to get a row of horsies on.
If that’s the case, it’s important that both sides do the same, because base depth is a factor in withdrawal as a result of losing combat.

We hit this problem in DBA/M, the base depth was far too shallow for 28mm. The solution, pick any base depth you feel comfortable with - but put a rock into the base at exactly 30mm from the front, that way you always know how far to recoil regardless of your opponent’s chosen base depth/heroic figure size.

Even old school 1970's minifigs 25mm horses are longer than 30mm.
LT's solution seems good though, or even just a dot on each side of the base at the 30mm mark.

You got me thinking and I measured up some Dixons 28’s (first thing that came to hand) and you know... you’re not wrong.
