Cheers Grizz. Yes, it looks like it should be the Arakan, with all that paddy and swamp, but in fact it's about 2,000 feet up in the Manipur Mountains. Imphal sits in a huge natural bowl in the mountains, with Logtak Lake at its centre.

I know, I saw the place when I was five. My father's best friend was from Imphal and Dad was visiting his father. I didn't realise but he was visiting all his Burmese friends to say goodbye.
