This is interesting but I'm not holding out any hopes or making any plans as I would not like to travel half way around the world to find that other things that I would like to see like parts of Europe, museums and wargame show are still shut and that I would have to be disinfected and quarantined here in NZ on my return - hope it all goes ahead though

It’s not unreasonable to assume that Ayton in May will be impacted by the virus thing - either being cancelled or under-attended. That being the case, how do we feel about a further postponement of the 10th anniversary games until October….or later….or rethinking the plans?

I was chatting with Andy, Dave H and Simon about this earlier and I said I’d ask the forum’s opinion (after checking with Hotel Tim, of course, because October is his idea).

Page 1 of the Ayton April/May 2021 thread has all the anniversary plans.

So……..

1) Move the postponed two-day agenda to October, slotting in the games much as already planned.
2) Leave October alone and plan new games. Do the anniversary thing later.
3) Cut our losses on the existing anniversary plans and make October the new 10th anniversary event, in whatever form it takes (i.e people offer up their games to play over the four days – similar to what we did when we planned for 2020).
4) AN other suggestion.

My vote is for ‘3’, i.e., ditching the May 2020 plan and starting again with a new anniversary plan for October.
A four-day event is something that has been spoken of for some time – years – and I believe it would be appropriate that we did something special. The games may well be largely the same (although I will be dropping my 20mm LoA/WSS game because it was always going to be a stretch to play it in the time available) but the extra two days will give us more wiggle room, and we can add bigger games like shinies and ACW.

3 for me, please! I think for the first post-Covid Ayton we need to have everyone there.

OK, that's taken me by surprise, well the Option 3 has at least. I like the sound of option 3, and a new plan for those dates definitely gets my vote. Granted it might just be a re-tweaking of last year's plan.
I am not taking ownership of the event, I just thought a four day extravaganza would be compensation for missing out last year and possibly missing out in May this year. And I wanted to spend longer with my buddies. It's just that Peeler thought we needed to book early rather than miss the boat with a clash of bookings, and the dates seemed practical from the point of view that the vaccine roll out should be well under way by then, and also to allow people to plan well in advance to be available. The content was always going to be open to debate and suggestions. I definitely would like to engage in some 42 mm shiny action, other than that I can be fluid around everything else.

So really it's a case of canvassing as to what people would like to do and then formulating an event plan, rather than simply imposing a menu on everybody.

I'd definitely go for option 3, but is that weekend the only option? I'd hate to miss it.

Option 3 sounds good to me. I'm a little worried that constantly pushing back the 10th Anniversary will dilute it a bit and it seems right the anniversary should have some fanfare around it. Plus it gives me more excuses not to miss it.

Having said that we need Gary so who's up for some horse stealing?

Ahem, I can say that even in Oz 1500km is a decent hike, but a lot less than many people did to cancon.
