I picked up a copy of Men of Bronze at Salute. They look interesting. Anything to kick start my much delayed 20mm ancient thing.Zenbadger wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 6:27 pm Just got hold of Men of Bronze, the new set from Osprey. They are big skirmish, about the same size as Lion Rampant but no fixed unit sizes, basing agnostic. Might be worth a go instead of Mortal Gods which was a bit disappointing, good core rules but dismal components (bent ragged cards, flimsy booklets, miscast dice etc.).

They get a thumbs up for including phalanx drift and my beloved Thebans and everything I can think of seems to be there. I just need to give them a go to see how they play, they physical resemblance to Lion Rampant can be deceptive at times.

But a thumbs down for not being historically aware enough to get the plural of Phalanx correct

Re: The Pointy Stick thread
I have noticed that a lot of Americans use phalanges rather than phalanxes, even in academic publications. I have even seen "phalangitaes" instead of phalangites which seems an unnecessary mish-mash to me.
Re: The Pointy Stick thread
Strictly speaking both are acceptable but, as I understand it, phalanges applies the greek pluralisation rules to the anglicised word 'phalanx', so it's a bit of a bastardisation...like EBs elastic bases.

Re: The Pointy Stick thread

Re: The Pointy Stick thread
In my old but trusty style guide phalanxes or phalanx are acceptable but phalanges should only be used in an anatomical context.
