Military Miniatures were trying to make a business out of painted figures by the mid 1980s.
Subs, was this Mick?
Could well have been. Initially, I thought the name was the same (age possibly playing with memory again)but reading further down the comments of using washes made me think again as they were not his style, (I know, between us we worked out the style and I painted some chaps for him). It was a black undecoat with bold, bright, block colours not too dissimilar to the style I still use to great effect today.

I definitely remember a pre-painted Spartan coming out in the late 1990's early 2000's. I'm sure there were a few different Roman poses too. I think the company was dipping its toes for a market. Paint job was passable for the price, figure quality was poor. I think they were getting them done in China.

I don't mind a boxed game here and there but have found few that have held my interest. Richard Borg's games and Wings of War have stood the test of time for me so far.

No, Tim, this was in the early 80's, I didn't move to Brum til '84 and it had been going before then.

I think what he’s discovered is that if he publishes a faintly foolish opinion then people take the piss. This is probably not news.
There's not much I don't agree with in his original post. Except that he is talking about what I call 'the other hobby'. Here in my hobby (historical wargaming) we still do our own stuff.

The only show I go to regularly is Phalanx and I've mentioned before that around 50%+ of the stalls were selling the usual 28mm plastics I can get locally...

I used to stock up on 15mm, and these days 20mm WW2 but the figure manufacturers seem to stay away... don't know why.
