I’m inclined to raise my game in the prep department.
Maybe not to Timmo level - a man’s got to know his limitations.

Going in the opposite direction, my primer/undercoat de jour for scenery is Wilko Superior Matt. The shade in use at the moment is Silver Birch. It works well on plastic figures too.

Golden tongued slicker that goat. I'm sure you didn't really want one. What will your missus do with it when she sees it?

That wouldn't have anything to do with him having two, due to an amnesiac/impulse buy at a Partizan a year or so ago, would it?

You'd have thought that after what his missus did with the first he'd have needed...…………………. oh, I see.

Quick look over, remove any glaring mould lines, prime/undercoat with Poundland matt black paint or car spray -the latter for large amounts of vehicles chaps only- and then paint. That's it for me. 6mm, piece of pi**.

Washing is worthwhile as the water always ends up murky so something is coming off the figures. This is true for AB, Perry, Foundry, Raiden and Minifigs.

If you can't be bothered with an elaborate prep or etch primer I think it's best to undercoat the bare metal with enamel. Since it is oil based it probably stands the best chance of getting through anything left on the figures from handling.

You can give him a slap after I've had my turn.
