The Loose Association of Wargamers

I'm still waiting for a rule-set that excites me. I have enough Warlord plastics to do a couple of armies still on the sprue in the shedquarters.

I like king and parliament, but not everyones taste.

I'd like to find something that feels a bit different from the old style Gush, or DBR. The War of the Three Kingdoms was very interesting, not least because of the rivalries and regional interests, so that would be a really important part of what would be good in a set of rules, then the very varying quality of fervour, the religious element.. Any good set of WoTK rules IMHO needs to include loyalty, enthusiasm and fervour as key aspects.

Actually, it sounds like I should just write a set for me.

I can see loads of possible categories.. like the regional interest could be the Ayton factor 'not from round here' being one end of the scale, and 'I'm not sure I'm not his father' at the other. Or having actually lived in the UK.. 'I hate them from the next village over' versus 'damn foreigners' - and obviously next village over being pretty near the top of the hatred scale.

I can see the combat matrix now.. different religion from the next village over, 'fight to the death'!

That's half a crown each way.

Much as predicted, a late-ish Tudor 12 man archer unit and a 6 man gentlemen adventurer base being completed. Because they looked nice.

They sound jolly nice. Did a bit of gnome basing this morning and created a gnome flag on the computer

Airfix 1/32 US x11 and x4 Russians from a large box of figures I aquired for cheap on ebay. Picked out the undamaged ones. Painted the delicate gun barrels with resin to strengthen them, based on 2mm ply 40mm rounds.

There are 8th Army, Afrika Corps, Paras and a few other odd n ends all worth painting up.

Today, varnishing gnomes, gnome flag, toadstools.

My workbench has a large glass of vodka on it. As that was preceded by a bottle and a half of red and some Bloody Mary's I have decided to move away from the workbench...
