Yes it's all a bit trickier, although technically still a UK based Court/lawyers thing to handle it, if that's where the creators are based. That is the reason I have only ever backed one non-UK based project and that became about as difficult as i've encountered.
It was with an established mid sized Italian company who were evasive and not entirely truthful when they failed to deliver on time. They eventually delivered the final items to backers about two years late and months after the general public had been able to buy the products at Salute! During the course of the "discussions" It transpired that they were not even legally a company in Italy, despite having traded for years and are still trading today.
Good lord... Not the fragrant 'Italwars' by any chance?

Oh dear, whoever mentioned ‘lending money’ and ‘contracts’ awoke the banker in me. A dog whistle I guess.

With interest rates very low, taking on the risk of a Kickstarter in return for a sizeable discount is one of the less speculative investment opportunities available today. (Dogecoin anyone?) I have only done two, both Forged in Battle’s War and Empire range. Having my cash tied up with them for a year or so cost me the square root of bugger all in interest forgone, but saved me roughly 20% on several hundred quids worth of figures. So I think Andy compensated me fully for the loan and I bet it was cheaper for him than the bank would charge. So winners all round, and not far from the reason Kickstarter was created originally.

Now, if you are borrowing money to put into KS, we need to have a serious chat… :fp:

I’ve just backed an RPG one. Primarily because I know the author, he’s local, he doesn’t have the cash to fund it and he has a good track record with previous ones (this is an expansion of adventures). And it’s a game I fancy playing. Did my pledge make a difference? No. Could I have bought it from him later? Yes. But that’s not the point. If we all thought like that, the game would not exist and I would not be playing it on Saturday evening.

Pardon my french... bollocks, existing ranges are not harmed by a ks in any way shape or form, and if they are not being expanded fast enough due to either cashflow or sculptor time (2 biggest issues), maybe theyshould run a kickstRter!

I'm curious as to how much every one of the new ACW or Napoleonic ranges produced conventionally over the last 40 years has affected the ranges preceding them and whether they have actually added anything other than being new and shiny?

Dee Sanction. Who doesn’t want to play a criminal, being blackmailed with certain death if they don’t investigate the paranormal on behalf of the Tudors?

I seem to remember some of the Boardgames were only for KS and not commercially available outside of it.
