A hundred years (or so) ago no-one would have cared about someone using 'flats' which is essentially what the paper figures are.
Mind you, we also had TB and polio!

HEY! I was still using Inf 6", Cav 12" fire 6"close, 12"long, guns 24-36".

And I have a medical certificate which states, inter alia, that I have never had TB and Polio.

60s wargamers never minded them either, tony baths spring to mind. I love flats but nowhere near a good enough painter for them.
