Depending on what Tim provides for you, Shiny Toy Soldier company have a nice sort of 1840s feel to them, Little Britons more Victorian. Though you can certainly mix and match between them. Irregular are mostly more Victorian late 19thC

tim.w - PM me some details of who you get your figures from, and which ones, and I'll try to put something together myself to at least augment what you can let me have.
Brendan, see link below. STS are very good if you want something early (ish) As you will see there are quite a lot of options for Johnny Foreigner. The Little Britons (also accessible via Spencer Smith or more geared for British and Dominion forces 1879-1914, their foreign options are a little bit more limited.
Hope this helps.

I can recommend Irregular Miniatures 40/42mm ranges as well. I had problems with getting the heads to fit right on some of my STS (Little Britons were fine) so, personally I wouldn't buy them again because life's too short. But others get on fine with them and it was probably just my particular head body combo or perhaps mould issues at the time.

Thanks everyone. In true Gin-und-Teutonic tradition, I shall be amassing Bavarians to extend whatever Tim provides (and hence will try to match them). I assume vignettes are also acceptable?

Hmmm, Well, whilst there is nothing in Queen's Regs that prohibit a "vignette", I can't speak for the attitudes of some of the other officers. Seriously, as long as your units confirm to the sizes laid down, namely 6 skirmishers, 12 Infantry and 6 Cavalry, all singly based, I can't see a problem. Of course you might want to consult the rules :- "A Gentleman's War" , and consider some of the "character" types suggested therein.
But, I should mention that circular bases are considered eccentric and barely tolerated, and texturing/groundwork is most definitely
NOT allowed. Likewise, movement trays are considered unsporting. (As specified in the 1890 Basing Manual. By General Sir Inigo Pickled-Burt, Published by the War Office 1888).

We only accept EBs basing methods because of special pleading from his nurse

Duly noted. I was just thinking of a mounted infantry officer as a senior commander/general.

What sort of time frame is this shiny game set. Is it the late 19th Century Invasion of Britain?
I might just have to buy a unit or two for myself.

That would be perfectly all right.

Mark, we have chosen the Le Quex book "England Invaded" about the Franco-Russian invasion of Britain in 1895. We have substantial British, French and Russian forces, and of course this being the L.A.W. there are several Imagination units too.
This link might give you an idea or two.
