Muchas gracias, my dudes.

I’m not totally settled in a rule set yet, though I’m thinking I’ll give the Barry Hilton set a try - the Talon and Claw GNW expansion for his WSS set. In it, cavalry is organized by squadrons, so 3-4 stands to a regiment I believe. Infantry is 3 bases per BN, so what you see above is 3 BNs total.

The Swedish force in the book is rather small, the 9 bases of foot, 1-2 of artillery in the pics above, and 12 cavalry squadrons or so.

The Saxon force is 6 infantry BNs, similar artillery and about 6 bases each of Saxon dragoons and heavies. Additionally, 3 squadrons of Polish heavies and a couple bases of light, Cossack types as well, IIRC.

I’ve also got the ‘In Deo Veritas’ set on the way and have the Polemos rules, but haven’t looked closely at them. Anything else recommended as I survey the available options?

I have used Barker's "Horse, Foot & Guns", and rather enjoyed it for WSS, but it is really best suited to a larger number of bases. Polemos I haven't tried for GNW mainly because I was playing solo, which makes tempo bidding useless as a core mechanic. Will be interested to hear what you think of "In Deo Veritas" as I haven't been able to find a review yet. I've also wondered about the FoG:R rules extended for this period.

As someone who's played FoG:R a lot in this particular reach of the Renaissance era, I have to say it works pretty well. The relatively fewer number of troop types in the Williamite period (technically, the rules only go up to 1698, so technically not quite WSS/GNW) allows you to ignore some of the more obscure technicalities of the rules and just play - much the same as the ECW period does, compared with, say, the TYW. If you've already got them, give them a go.

Thanks!

Finally finished the last stand/strip of musketeers. Seemed like it'd never end. Now on to the command and grenadiers...

Smashing. I take it you'll not be volunteering for the charity 6mm paint organised by Per at Rollaone though.... 😀

I volunteered. Awaiting a dragoon unit arriving for my paintbrushes. In fact it's made me consider hauling out the unpainted 6mm WSS French.
