I note the brits didn't waste time on rubbish like that for the STEN, did they find it useful?
It just made it more expensive. As mentioned above, the US Army deleted it as an austerity measure.

Ah cheers Huw, I thought we must have used it somewhere, just didn't recall seeing it.

As I recall the Home Guard got the first big deliveries of the Thompson. Which means the Private Pikes had Cutts compensators but the Commandos didn't.

As used by my dear old Granddad to mow down a motorbike copper who didn't stop at a VCP, one dark, wild and lonely night in the village of New Moat...
He was then put on a charge by the CSM, as he only put one round from the entire drum-mag into the copper's arse (the CSM by the way, was his fiancée's (my Nan's) dad...).
Virtually all their smallarms were American - Thompsons, Springfields, BARs, Lewis Guns firing US .30 ammo and water-cooled Browning M1919 MMGs. His section had two BARs, a Lewis and a Thompson! He regarded Dad's Army as a documentary and thought it was incredibly accurate with regard to the weapons.

That's a decent amount of firepower to throw around.

That's what I thought... They had a phenomenal amount (after the initial knife-on-a-stick and shotgun phase, anyway).

Maybe your Grandad’s shooting explains why they needed so much...

Yes indeed... And his legacy lived on with me. I could barely hit the target with an SLR at 25 yards. With an SMG at the same range I certainly hit Lincolnshire...

Lincolnshire was asking for it.

It certainly did have it coming.
