I's have set up a block and tackle off a tree. But I'd say it's two, maybe three per nellie. Bloody inefficient way to KO tanks.

Yes, they were just VERY unfortunate to have one land smack on the tank. It's occurred to me that I used to routinely dead-lift 11-gallon kegs weighing 140lbs to shoulder height, to get them on the flat-bed of a brewery lorry (before H&S was really a 'thing') and two of us would lift 18-gallon kegs between us, so it's not insurmountable.

18 gallon keg is a bit over 100kg. Manhandling the best part of a third of a tonne is not easy, particularly if it's a smallish sort of item. I have lifted a pickup truck with a large number of men, but that's easier than a shell because everyone can get at it.
