1) Did these armies actually have a proper skirmish doctrine and troops trained to use it ?
They were very much regarded as "irregulars" (as were Highland regiments in the British Army of that time) and as such they took part in the kleine krieg/petite guerre warfare that took place away from the main battlefield - or at the very least, was relegated to the flanks, or outposts. Whilst they were instructed in the same manuals as line troops (and guards) for parades and such like, their style of fighting was much looser than those types of troops. I'm not sure if they had fully evolved the main line/supports/reserve doctrine of the Napoleonic period, but they were certainly moving towards it.

If the answer to either question is No then I have solved your basing problem.
Not really, no. Some nations used their hussars as third-line battle cavalry - cuirassiers/carabiniers in front, dragoons in the second - but only if a commander sensed victory, but had no other troops left to deliver the coup de grace to a defeated enemy, or if a losing commander was really desperate, would he unleash such troops on the main enemy force.

Thankyou for taking the time HMSP. I shall give it a good going over when I’m not knee deep in caulk. They are really smashing

Best reference I can find is their presence in the Battle of Leuthen, only two companies, so as I mentioned earlier just thinking a few stands for occupying a village or an orchard here or there. Kreigskunst rules has a section on them, so seems justifiable. The Austrian Grenz will require more attention I think, but I'll sort that out at a later time.

In the SYW the Austrian grenzers/croats saw quite extensive use. A lot of the freikorps units were intended for a similar role but were often of poor quality.

Here's what I opted for for the Jaegers. Probably only 3 more bases of these to reflect their rather sparse numbers in major battlefield engagements.

The guys over at LAF shared this with me - pretty cool little terrain project- especially as it’s hosted on a primary school website!

That is a bit of allright, that is. If I was invading Germany, I'd do that.

Anyone have thoughts on sourcing 6mm SYW limbers and equipment.

Seems to be a substantial lack of that stuff in the Baccus range. And even other ranges seem to default to using early Nap crews.

Ideas?

Have you tried Heroics and Ros? They do Prussian Artillery 'Teams' but i'm not sure what's in them.
Irregular do them, but are not to everyones taste (although their 6mm looks better painted up in the 'flesh' than it does on the website).

Those Jaegers look brilliant too :)

I used the 2 horse Limbers from the Baccus WSS range.
