The only small dog in the wider family was meant to be a German Shep cross type, it was a Romanian rescue street dog. Bro-in-law drove to Portsmouth (from York) to get it, believing it to be sinething that would grow. It didnt and is about the size of a Chiuwawa. It now roams with 2 huge German Sheps (was 3) and the latest edition of a Tibetan Mastif puppy, which is as big as any of the others.
My own dog is a Staffie but doesnt identify as a dog so hasn't much time for other dogs big or small.

A small dog. OK, the Baroness is actually paying for it, but it's.....cute. There, I said it. Despite not being a fan of small dogs.
Second mortgage required? We're currently being vetted (bad pun) by a breeder as to whether we are suitable to take two Labrador puppies off their hands. Our old boy died last year at 13, and his sister is now 14 and barely stirs other than to the foodbowl, or to fart.
The process appears to be taking more paperwork than my elevated clearance. And while the pair will have every day names, enshrined on paper somewhere will be registered names suitable only for Sundays. In Gaelic.
But congrats on the dog. Jeremy is spot on. No such thing as a bad dog. Even the wee handbag variety.

We always had big dogs in SA. Angus was some 140 pounds in weight.
We now have spaniels. I’ve loved them all equally
Very different environment. Gillian had a bull mastiff and doberman plus the lab in Cape Town, just the things to keep you company running in the mountains. But our old lab in Oz was 125lb, or 57 kg in real money, and none of that was flab.
I reckon this will be our last pair of big dogs. After that something smaller. In 14 years time we won't be capable of lifting 50kg or so squirming weight into the car. At least we're not worried about snakes. Another friend just lost their dog to a brown snake in Canberra.
And spaniels are just lovely dogs.

Yeah, I saw him on FB and he looks a little cracker.
Like you, I was definitely not convinced when the niece offered us the runt of her 'Jackapoo' litter to replace our recently-departed collie-cocker cross, but was overruled by OC Domestic Flt. However, 'The Little Bastard' has proved to be an absolute delight and not remotely the yappy lapdog I was expecting. She's got a lovely nature, is very confident and her energy, playfulness, mischief and cuteness levels are dialed up to 11. At the same time she's a great pub-dog and will happily sit under the table, hoovering crisps without complaint for hours. Just a brilliant dog.
Still goes absolutely spastic at the postman though...

Sounds like all you could ask for in a "wee dug".
He's one of a litter of five and I got to choose him so went for the "negative Snoopy" look (the Baroness is keen on said canine WW1 pilot

).

As always, Jeremy has the right of it, us dogs are effin’ brilliant.
Posties, on the other paw, are Satan’s lackeys and deserve to be chased from this plane of existence. (Except when delivering parcels of wargaming goodies. Then they get to deliver the parcel before being lunch.)

Marlie loves our local Jackapoo, Reg. If we're on opposite sides of the road one of us will have to cross so they can have a hug.
