The Loose Association of Wargamers

Seem to have accidentally bought a few Wargames Foundry 1st Afghan War British. So now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. I'm thinking a few more WF figs, then a couple of boxes of the Perry plastic Afghans. And maybe Sharp Practice. Or they may just lurk in a box...

Decided to splurge out a huge wad of cash on four packs of 6mm tank transfers from Pendraken. £11 ! That's like 4 pints of ale. I suppose its because they import them from America.

Bought some Kolinsky paint brushes as I have been using cheap brushes for several years but I wanted some better quality.

A few books - the two Osprey MAAs on the 1836-66 Austrian Army, the two on the German forces in the FPW, and a book on black soldiers in the AWI from Helion. Also, a pack of 1:300 "suicide" Italian motor boats for Coastal Patrol, and two packs of boxes, tarpaulins and general stowage etc (40+ items in each) for my 1:56 French and German early war tanks.

If into fpw, the 2 helion books are often cheap as digital versions, and well written

Thanks - I'm really only doing basic uniform/organisational research to help me to set up SP2 forces using the evolving Perry FPW and North Star 1866 ranges. My focus will, surprisingly, be Bavarian forces (for which I do already have a few books) in either/both conflicts - they'll just have different opponents in each case.

Love the period, basically (almost) Napoleonic Uniforms in a Colonial setting.
I still have loads to paint up from the original Studio Miniatures Kickstarter!

Being biased my rules of choice for a "Grand Skirmish" game in the period and my home made ones (we used them at Framlingham one year). Never really felt enthused by Sharpe Practice but they are a good solid set of rules that everyone seems to know.

Thanks Paul, I'm trying to work out what a Sharp Practice force would look like. I will probably try and adapt the lists in the rulebook for the Indian Mutiny. What sort of size of forces were you using for your Grand Skirmish?

Anything from 40-100+ figures, think we had 6 players at Framlingham and they must have all had in excess of twenty figures each?

They're not an uber serious set of rules though and there can be the possibility of the "environment" getting involved!
I haven't used them since I played out a solo campaign a couple of Christmas' ago!

An unexpected treasure trove of 2nd Generation Renaissance/ECW Minifigs. Downside - all six lots were in America. and though the total price for the figures was a steal at US$100.00 (£75) in total, each lot was going to cost upwards of US$20.00 (£14) to post to the UK, with no option to combine postage, PLUS another US$14.00 (£9-£10) per lot in import duties - so twice the cost of the figures in "extras". Upside - a friend over there has bought them for me, now we just have to work out how to sneak them past HMRC in someone's suitcase, or inside a hollowed-out book.....
