Not in the Napoleonic version, although I find that a combination of reducing movement to 2/3rds and giving brigade commanders a rating of 7 combined with the French Pas de Charge rule and perhaps making British well drilled stops that effect. The French still move fast but only in column, which means their fire is pretty ineffective

Thanks, Gary. The game was Alexandria 1801 (put on by the Perry), and I'm guessing it was 1st Edn. The French player opposing me (who was used to BP, it was my first game with them) rolled triple moves for both his brigades and then blasted me at short range, breaking both my brigades. Game over, aside from a small garrison in a couple of redoubts on the British left which I had chosen to consider a separate command; gave me time to wander round the show, but hardly satisfactory as a demo game.

Have hated BP with a vengeance after a similar experience against a very gamey opponent- not played either (BP or them) since

It’s funny, I was just saying something similar to Jamie yesterday morning. Warlord Games write rules which are largely pretty decent but for some reason, often attract the wrong kind of players.

Old John and I played a Napoleonic BP game not long after after the rules were published. He hated them, particularly the restriction on his cavalry charging headlong at my squares. Understandable, seeing as how the table was groaning under the weight of his cuirassiers.

Such fun.

Did Gary mentioned something about the evening meal arrangements? I thought I saw something earlier but I can't find it now.

Following a 1-2-1 with my wallet, we have agreed that the pension, such as it is, is being stretched beyond all reason by the numerous weekend 'jollies' (my wallet's word, not mine) I've been taking. As a consequence and henceforth, I shall enjoy just one proper meal with the chaps but subsequent nights away I shall restrict myself to a Pot Noodle in the hotel room.

The stupid quantities of alcohol consumed when away from home never came up.......

All of which means that I'll do the group meal on the Friday and meet up for beers on the Saturday.

Is that a euphemism?

No, it's a savoury snack.

To be fair, she''s probably aware that you dodge most of the drinking and didn't feel that it was worth mentioning.
