Not sure I am a wargamer anymore, no books, figures, terrain or rules bought, games played or figures painted.

i am thinking of crochet or rug making to replace it.

You're just having a wallet rest, mate. Do you still admire your figures? Do you still have them? If you do then you're still a wargamer.

Your WW1 stache seemed to have a lot of British in it; how did you come by it? I'm thinking of adding some Woodbine ANZACs to my "British" platoon to create a Digger unit - the trouble is they're almost all in shirts apart from one guy in full Western Front kit who would make a fantastic platoon sergeant.

Not a bit of it. One does not need to buy tons of toys one is never going to paint to qualify as a wargamer. Obviously, buying paints and supplies does not count toward buying tons of unneeded stuff. I am trying out low impact wargaming this year (emphasis on trying). I shall endeavour to only paint stuff that has been festering in the lead/plastic pile, and only play games with figures I already have completed. There is ample in the piles to enable that ambition. So far I have finally painted my entire supply of Copplestone Future Wars figures, and added extra stowage and detail and re painted all nine of my old GW Rhino fleet to go with them. I have painted 30+ new baddies and mercs for Kumbayah, that I bought from Buff back in 2021, and am at present painting some 60+ Valiant WWII Germans that have been festering for at least 4 years. So I am feeling pretty smug about it. Of course I should point out that buying things to go with existing and ongoing projects does NOT count as buying new and shiny.

I just think I am feeling the after effects of a long and not great year.

And nothing is poking me in a, I can be fun, way at the moment.

Most of them are Great War minis from North star, with some older HLBS WW1 Americans mixed in. Woodbine would be good but not sure how they would scale. From memory they are pretty chunky, so should work OK.

Wargames Atlantic are releasing WW1 British soon, so it might be worth checking those out as well, though most of the WA figures I have seen are pretty slender it should be less noticeable with all the equipment.

From a photo comparison, the WA figures do seem to match up with GWM pretty well, IMO. However, whilst the French set is not bad (and a big gap in the GWM range), the other sets are not great. The Germans suffer from "body-builder shoulders" and the British got a bit of a slating when they were previewed recently - no entrenching tools, no grenade attachments for rifles, no Lewis drum carrier webbing etc.

Not bought any figures, paints or terrain. Have bought several books though.

That's a shame about the WA sets. The shoulders thing is quite hard to rectify. I had thought about getting some frames for conversions, additional crew figures etc .
